The length of coast line is about 32 miles, but inland the territory, which lies between the rivers Volta and Mona, widens to three or four times that breadth. Togoland is placed KAMERUN 701 placed under an imperial governor, assisted by a secretary, an inspector of customs, and a local council of representatives of the merchants. Lome, the chief port, is regarded as the capital; Little Popo, Porto Seguro, and Bagida are also on the coast. The governuieut stations are Misahbne with Kpandu, Kete Kratshi with Bismarckbnrg, Sansanne-Mangu, Bassari, Atakpame, Sokiidt'. Togo, which has given name to the region, is situated on Lake Togo, and is said to have 8,000 inhabitants. The military force consists of 7 Germans and 150 natives. At Sebbi-vi there is a Government school with 78 pupils; at Lome another with 24 pupils, and school for handicraft opened in 1903.
